Lately, vaping has been in the news especially after the increase in cigarette prices. Of concern is the presence of nicotine in vapes. Nicotine is a controlled substance and controlled medicine.


In medical line, nicotine containing preparation has only one ' indication' which means something that has been proven for medical condition or health problem.


The indication stated that, for every nicotine- containing product is ' to aid in smoking cessation'. In other words, to help smokers quit.


Besides, nicotine is only should be available through health professionals. At high dosage, nicotine is a poison that causes paralysis of the lungs. Some people used nicotine in chewing gum for smoking cessation experienced sore mouth as a side effect. That is why a pharmacist or health practitioner would advise a patient to chew the gum on both sides of the jaw to minimize discomfort.


Amount of nicotine that is absorbed into the body differs when the mode of consumption differs, even though the amount of nicotine in the vape cartridge is the same as that in a cigarette stick.
